WOF – WARRANT OF FITNESS
Warrant of Fitness or WOF regulations are changing. Vehicles first registered before 1 January 2000 will continue to require a WOF every six months, but newer vehicles will be changing to require one WOF per year for the lifetime of the vehicle. The changes to the warrant of fitness inspection frequency will be introduced by the middle of 2014. Until then, vehicles remain on their existing inspection frequency:
• 12 monthly for vehicles less than six years old
• six-monthly for vehicles aged six years or older.
Fully qualified Warrant of Fitness inspectors. All WOF inspectors are fully experienced in vehicle mechanics and servicing. They complete regular updates and liaise with New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) on all WOF requirements.
If our WOF inspectors find any issues with your vehicle, the repair work can be completed onsite quickly and efficiently. Your vehicle will then be re-inspected and a WOF issued.
You will find The Mechanics mechanical services particularly convenient for your car servicing needs if you live in or work around the following areas:
ST MARTINS, BECKENHAM, SPREYDON, CASHMERE, OPAWA, SYDENHAM, ADDINGTON.
Having the correct wheel alignment is important when it comes to the safety and the lifespan of your tyres, and even your vehicle’s fuel efficiency. Wheel alignment can change by simply hitting a pothole, having faulty suspension or any number of other reasons.

You should have an oil change regularly; regardless of how many kilometres the vehicle has driven. If a vehicle is not used much, the oil in the engine still needs to be flushed and replaced. Old oil can degrade an engine, even when the vehicle is sitting in the garage.
EXHAUST & MUFFLERS
A clean car exhaust and muffler system is a sign that your vehicle is running well. If your car exhaust seems loud or dirty, it’s best to get it checked out. The Mechanics can inspect your exhaust system in as little as 10 minutes, and exhaust inspections are included in all vehicle services.
If your brakes are squealing, pulling the vehicle to one side or making your steering wheel shake, then it’s time to take advantage of our brake repair & brake pad services. Brakes can degrade slowly due to simple wear and tear, which can make it difficult for vehicle owners to see the changes. We can test your braking system and make any repairs necessary. Brake hoses and fluid can also be checked and replaced if necessary.
The Mechanics provide clutch service or repair depending on your vehicle’s requirements. Clutch Service – this involves checking the free play (adjustment) in the clutch cable and adjusting if necessary, checking the clutch fluid (hydraulic system) and road testing vehicle.
CAMBELT / TIMING BELT
A cambelt/timing belt is situated in the front or side of your engine behind the plastic cambelt covers. This belt has been designed to be replaced generally every five years or 100,000kms. Failure of this belt can result in expensive engine repairs.
SUSPENSION, SHOCKS & STEERING
The Mechanics offer a complete range of suspension, shock absorber and steering services. Suspension keep tyres in contact with the road surface, and eliminates road shock. Shock absorbers are a key part of the suspension system.

RADIATOR REPAIRS & COOLING SYSTEM SERVICES
A radiator is vital to the health of your engine; ensuring that it does not overheat and maintains an optimum operating temperature. A radiator cools the liquid that in turns cools your engine, thereby maintaining the correct operating temperature. The Mechanics offer a full range of radiator and cooling system repairs and services.
Your alternator is responsible for turning your car’s mechanical energy into electrical current. In more modern vehicles, alternator problems can be indicated by a warning light on the dashboard that will automatically come on once the electrical output of the alternator drops below a certain level.
All front-wheel drive cars have Constant Velocity joints, or CV joints, on both ends of the drive shafts (half shafts). DID YOU KNOW
It’s a good idea to combine your WOF and vehicle service, because WOF inspections do not cover all aspects of your vehicle. For example engine, clutch, gearbox and differential; lubricant levels and condition; brake pad thickness or life expectancy; but they can be checked as part of a vehicle service.
